About Me

I am Schizophrenic

okay, maybe a bit harsh? How about chameleon or multi-faceted? Better? But different roles, and different times and aggressive deliverables all affect how you work and what you deliver. There is an ideal way but it ignores the project-time contiuum.

I tend to be a practical and an “in the moment’ guy. That means I am - realistic, - aware of deadlines, - cognizant of windows of opportunity and know how quickly they can close.

  1. Practical

This means that I do some things quickly and do not let my perfectionism become the enemy of the good (or the good enough). Some people told me a long time ago that if I didn’t have enough time to do it right, then I shouldn’t do it because I wouldn’t have the time to go back and fix it or improve it. Okay then :) I do agree with that also but have amended that belief and have summarized it as “good enough for right now”. Just document it, put it on the list and maybe you can revisit later on.

  2. Engineer

I am an engineer by education, in practice. So, by nature I want to - plan - analyze - evaluate - test and measure - iterate

Think “it’s going to take a while to do it right and get it fully documented but it will be perfect”

Sometimes over planning and over analyzing slow things down, and that could be a bad thing… (see me the schizophrenic…) My upbringing tells me to try to do as much of this as you can, but do not forget about deliverables and dates and time lines. Perhaps a combination of documenting more and engineering less might be reasonable if you are being pushed to deliver something quickly.

  1. Founder

The emphasis here is for getting as much done as possible in a reasonable amount of time. Basically, be quick but be thorough and take as many shortcuts as necessary to get something working. Take into consideration, time-to-market or if I don’t get this working at the next investor demo I will not get the funding.

Think “good enough for right now!”

  1. Owner, Customer, Investor, Dreamer

Spending. It takes time which is a luxury I do not have and I need this quickly equals a large cost to get it right quickly…now.

Think, “it needs to be perfect, yesterday!”
